Hair Care Tips for Damaged Hair | Frankie Salon

Are you tired of bad hair days? Do you want to have healthy and gorgeous hair? Hair care is crucial for maintaining healthy, beautiful hair. The way you care for your hair can have a significant impact on its health and appearance. In this guide, we'll share some of our effective hair care tips to help you achieve the healthy and gorgeous hair you've always wanted.

Determine Your Hair Type

Before you can start taking care of your hair, it's essential to determine your hair type. Hair type refers to the texture and thickness of your hair. Whether your hair is straight, wavy, curly, or coily, each hair type requires a different hair care routine. For example, coily hair needs more moisture than curly, or wavy hair, and significantly more moisture than straight hair.

Thick hair can handle heavy products that would weigh fine hair down. Once we determine your hair type, our team of experienced stylists can help you choose from our array of Oribe hair care products and styling methods that work best for you.

Using the Right Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoos and conditioners are the number one products that are overlooked. Using the right shampoo and conditioner is crucial for healthy hair. The type of shampoo and conditioner you use depends on your hair type and the condition of your hair.

If you have dry or damaged hair, choose a moisturizing or repairing shampoo and conditioner, like Oribe’s Moisture line or Gold Lust Repairing or Alchemy line. If you have oily hair, choose a clarifying or balancing shampoo and conditioner, like Oribe’s Serene Scalp balancing shampoo and conditioner or Oribe’s Oil Control shampoo. Using the wrong shampoo and conditioner can cause build up on your scalp or even potentially damage your hair.

Are you struggling with your shampoo and conditioner? Are you tired of not getting results from the products you have tried? Sick of spending hundreds of dollars on products to have them (and your hair) fall flat? At Frankie Salon we offer a variety of high-quality hair care products for all hair types.  You can trust our experienced stylist to recommend the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair. You can guarantee to find something you will love and our 7-day in store credit or exchange policy ensures that.

Clarify your hair

One of the most common issues we see is a buildup of products on the hair resulting in unwanted results. Much like exfoliating your face so it can absorb the expensive products you put on, hair requires the same treatment. If there is a buildup your hair will appear greasy at the roots and dry on the ends. When people see dry ends, they immediately reach for “dry hair” products which are typically heavy in nature or full of a lot of proteins weighing your hair down. If this is the case, clarify with Oribe’s The Cleanse clarifying shampoo, and then apply your moisture products as usual.

Wash Your Hair Properly

Washing your hair is essential for keeping it clean and healthy. However, washing your hair too frequently or using hot water can damage your hair. Here are some tips for washing your hair properly:

  • Wet your hair thoroughly before applying shampoo
  • Gently spread the shampoo in your hands before massaging into scalp
  • Massage your scalp gently with your fingertips
  • Rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water
  • Repeat if needed and do not shampoo your mids to ends
  • Apply conditioner from mid-length to ends
  • Rinse your hair with cool water to seal the cuticles and add shine

Don't Overuse Heat Styling Tools

Heat styling tools like flat irons, curling irons, and hair dryers can damage your hair if you overuse them. Heat can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. To prevent heat damage, use heat styling tools in moderation. Always use a heat protectant before using heat styling tools. Thankfully, every Oribe styling product has 450 degree heat protection, but if you are unsure of which one to grab we recommend Balm D’or, Royal Blowout or Run-through Detangling Primer.

Additionally, avoid using high heat settings and try air-drying your hair whenever possible. Check your hot tools and see if they have a temperature gage, usually if it only has an off/on switch the heat setting may be too high for your hair and could be causing unnecessary damage. Look at your hair strands and see if your ends have white balls on the bottom, this is a sure sign of heat damage and may require purchasing a new tool. A fan favourite at Frankie is the Chi 3 in 1!

Use Hair Masks

Hair masks are an excellent way to nourish and hydrate your hair. Hair masks can help repair damaged hair and improve hair texture. Apply a hair mask once a week, focusing on the ends of your hair. Leave the mask on for 15-30 minutes, then rinse it out with cool water. Once you have determined your hair type, choose from Oribe's masque lineup: Moisture and Control, Beautiful Color Masque, Hair Alchemy Fortifying Treatment Masque, and Gold Lust Transformative Masque

Specialized Treatments:

Another good option is to book in for a treatment at Frankie Salon. These treatments are specialized to help fix whatever issue you are having with your hair. Course and colour treated? There is a treatment for that. Fine and brittle? We got you! Scalp issues? Contact us! These specialized treatments can be added onto any service we offer

Get Regular Haircuts

Getting regular haircuts is essential for maintaining healthy hair. Haircuts can help get rid of split ends and prevent hair breakage. Getting a haircut every six to eight weeks is ideal for most hair types. At Frankie Salon, our hairstylists can help you choose a haircut that compliments your face shape and hair type.
